Dataspire awarded thin client project for Heaton Primary School in Bradford

Dataspire have recently been awarded a project to deliver a thin client solution to Heaton Primary School in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Gareth Medd, who is the Assistant Headteacher for Heaton Primary School, attended the BETT show in January 2011. It was at this event where he came across the Dataspire stand where we were demonstrating our thin client solutions for schools.
Gareth said that he was looking for a solution which would improve the delivery of ICT to their 130 student workstations and 40 staff/admin workstations. After discussions at BETT and subsequent meetings at the school a decision has been made to implement a Microsoft Windows 2008R2 Remote Desktop Services solution for the curriculum machines and a Citrix XenApp solution for staff remote access.
The goals for the project are:
- Reduce the amount of time they spend maintaining computers and responding to problems.
- Increase staff confidence in using ICT.
- Free the ICT team's time so that they can support teaching and learning.
- Reduce the time given to installing software and building desktop images when they buy new equipment.
- Provide access at home for staff to use the MIS system and the school facilities.
- Reduce the ongoing cost of maintenance and support.
- Extend the life of older hardware.
When asked why Dataspire were selected for this project, Gareth said the following
"I was impressed by their experience in delivering thin client solutions in an educational context. They understand the complexities of educational IT and have good references from their customers. So far their sales support has been knowledgeable and realistic. They have been able to develop a solution that works within our budget but should deliver the level of provision we need".
The project is set to commence in early June and will be deployed before the summer break.
